New Delhi: Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party and a senior political leader, was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi late on Tuesday night (March 24) due to health-related issues. According to doctors, she was experiencing chest tightness and mild difficulty in breathing, prompting the medical team to decide to keep her under observation.
Her health has been adversely affected by the changing weather conditions and rising pollution levels in Delhi. A team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition. Preliminary reports indicate that her bronchial asthma has flared up slightly—a condition that is often triggered by cold air and dust. Providing a brief update, Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of the hospital, stated that Sonia Gandhi’s condition is currently stable. She has been admitted as a precautionary measure and is being administered antibiotics along with other necessary medications.
The 79-year-old Sonia Gandhi has been facing various health challenges for some time now. Earlier this year, in January, she had to be hospitalized due to respiratory complications. In June 2025, she spent a few days in the hospital due to a stomach infection. In September 2022, she also traveled abroad to undergo medical treatment. Currently, doctors are monitoring her recovery, and it is anticipated that she may be discharged from the hospital in a day or two, once her condition returns to normal.
