In the last 22 years, the number of voters in Dehradun district has increased from approximately eight lakh to nearly 16 lakh. The highest increase in voters has been in the Dehradun Municipal Corporation area. Preparations have begun to scrutinize the details of these increased voters.
Currently, BLOs (Booth Level Officers) have started the pre-Special Intensive Revision (pre-SIR) process. The 2003 voter list is being used as the basis for this. The pre-SIR is to be completed by the end of this month so that orders for the main SIR can be issued and the work can be completed with full quality and within the stipulated timeframe.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is underway in 12 states of the country and is soon to begin in Uttarakhand as well. In this regard, the administration has started its preparations.
Matching 30 Voters Daily
Under the pre-SIR, BLOs are going door-to-door and matching the details of 30 voters daily. In the main SIR, political party agents will be taken into confidence and their help will be sought to ensure that the SIR is impartial and free from any allegations.
Matching with the Current Voter List
Supervisors and BLOs have started working on the task. The BLOs will identify the differences in names between the 2003 and 2005 voter lists and review the reasons for these differences. A comparison will also be made with the current voter list.
Dehradun Sees the Highest Increase in Voters
The Dehradun Municipal Corporation area has seen the most significant expansion in the district. In 2003, there were only 45 wards. The estimated number of voters at that time was around two to two and a half lakh. After that, the city developed rapidly. From 45 wards, the Municipal Corporation has now reached 100 wards.
Today, there are approximately 15.56 lakh voters in the entire district. Of these, about 8.9 lakh are male voters and about 7.47 lakh are female voters. In Dehradun city alone, the number of voters is more than 7.71 lakh.
Since the 2018 municipal corporation elections, there has been an increase of more than 22 percent in the total number of voters in Dehradun city. In this situation, the number of voters here has more than tripled compared to 2003.
The pre-SIR (Special Summary Revision) is currently underway in Dehradun. The main SIR has not yet started, nor has its date been announced. Under the pre-SIR, each BLO (Booth Level Officer) has to visit the homes of 30 voters daily. It is expected to be completed by the end of December. – Abhinav Shah, CDO
