In compliance with the directives of the Election Commission, national political parties in Uttarakhand have so far appointed 20,863 Booth Level Agents (BLAs). Expressing his gratitude to the parties, Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam has requested them to expedite the appointment of BLAs to reach 100 percent coverage soon. To date, the BJP has appointed 89 percent of its BLAs, while the Congress has appointed 84 percent. There are five districts in the state where both parties have successfully appointed 100 percent of their BLAs.
Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Purushottam stated that, across the state, the BJP has appointed 10,551 BLAs, the Congress 9,869, the CPI(M) 326, and the BSP 117. BLAs are set to play a pivotal role in the purification of the electoral rolls during the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign.
He further noted that, acting on the Commission’s directives, meetings were held with recognized national political parties in the state to request the appointment of 100 percent of their BLAs; following these consultations, the political parties have proceeded to appoint the vast majority of their agents.
