Under the guidance of Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority Nainital and Hon’ble District Judge/Chairman District Legal Services Authority Dehradun Shri Prem Singh Khimal Ji, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Dehradun Smt. Seema Dungarkoti celebrated *International Nelson Mandela Day* with the prisoners lodged in District Jail Dehradun.
On this occasion, Secretary Madam was accompanied by Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel Shri Shamim Kashif and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel Shri Nitish Bhadula, Jailor Shri Pawan Kothari and Deputy Jailor who counseled the prisoners one to one/individually and discussed with them the reforms made by Shri Nelson Mandela during his 27 years spent in jail.
The prisoners were motivated by all the above mentioned officials and were told that whatever their past may have been, their future is still in their hands.
It was also told that how they can bring about a change in themselves through various educational programs, skill development trainings, mental development and yoga level etc. being run in the jail and can start their bright future and can again create a positive identity for themselves in the society.
On this occasion, a medical camp was also organized for the prisoners and after examining them, necessary medicines were made available. The prisoners were also given detailed information about the various legal rights available to them and the assistance given by the District Legal Services Authority.
