The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is continuously conducting a strict campaign against illegal constructions in the authority’s jurisdiction. In accordance with the state government’s zero-tolerance policy, effective sealing and demolition actions were taken in the Rishikesh and Mussoorie areas. The authority has clarified that no construction will be permitted without map approval, land use change permission, or other legal procedures. The MDDA states that illegal and unplanned construction adversely impacts urban infrastructure, traffic management, environmental balance, and infrastructure. Therefore, ensuring compliance with regulations is essential.
*Sealing of illegal commercial construction in the Mussoorie area*
The authority took action against an illegal commercial construction being carried out by Rohit Pundir on the Kimari Motorway in the Mussoorie area and sealed the building. During the investigation, it was found that the construction was being carried out for commercial use without an approved map, a clear violation of building bylaws. This action was carried out in the presence of Assistant Engineer Mr. Ajay Malik, Junior Engineer Mr. Anurag Nautiyal, supervisors, and police. The Authority reiterated that unplanned construction in mountainous areas can pose serious environmental risks.
*Sealing Drive Against Illegal Constructions in Rishikesh*
The enforcement team also took strict action against illegal commercial constructions in the Rishikesh area. A commercial construction being carried out by Ritu Gupta, wife of Anil Gupta, in Street No. 5, Veerpur Khurd, near Seema Dental College, was sealed after being found to be in violation of regulations. Similarly, a construction being carried out by Karamveer Singh in Street No. 10, Nirmal Bagh Block-B, Pashulok, was also found to be without valid approval, leading to the Authority’s sealing action. *Demolition of Illegal Multi-Storey Building*
Demolition proceedings were completed against an illegal multi-story building constructed by Bhavesh Joshi near the Shiv Temple on Virbhadra Road, Rishikesh. A notice was issued to the owner and the building owner was given the opportunity to submit the necessary documents, but valid approvals were not submitted within the stipulated time. Subsequently, the demolition was carried out as per the rules. The action was carried out in the presence of Assistant Engineer Mr. Abhishek Bhardwaj, Junior Engineer Mrs. Poonam Saklani, Mr. Amit Bhardwaj, supervisors, and police.
*Commitment to Planned Urban Development*
The Authority has clarified that the campaign against illegal constructions in the area will continue. Strict action will be taken against unauthorized construction, encroachment, and unregulated development activities. Building bylaws are designed to address traffic management, parking management, drainage systems, environmental protection, and civic amenities. Ignoring these regulations could increase urban chaos and structural risks in the future.

Authority Vice President Banshidhar Tiwari stated that illegal construction in the area is unacceptable under any circumstances. He clarified that strict adherence to building regulations is essential for planned urban development and the protection of civic amenities.
