Rural Development Minister Ganesh Joshi today formally launched a new range of Dehradun’s famous Basmati rice under Uttarakhand’s prestigious brand, House of Himalayas, in the FRDC auditorium at the Secretariat.
An association of Dehradun Basmati producers was also formed, comprising approximately 40 farmers from the Vikasnagar and Sahaspur regions. These farmers produce Basmati using traditional farming methods, maintaining its unique aroma and quality.
Citing this initiative as commendable, Minister Ganesh Joshi said, “This is not just a launch, but a pledge to revive the glorious history of Dehradun Basmati.” He encouraged farmers to join forces on a large scale to ensure large-scale production of Dehradun Basmati. He expressed confidence that this initiative will not only increase farmers’ incomes but also give Dehradun Basmati a new identity in the national and international markets. Minister Joshi said that the combination of organized efforts, modern branding, and traditional knowledge can become a role model for rural development and agricultural products.
Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, Rural Development Commissioner Anuradha Pal, Additional Secretary Jharna Kamthan, Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, URRDA CEO Abhishek and many other officials were present in the program
