Uttarkashi: The Public Works Department has not been able to complete the work of cutting about three km of road of Nagal village of Dunda development block even in four years. At the same time, due to departmental negligence, the footpaths of the villagers have also been damaged. Due to this, they are facing problems in movement during the rainy season. Many times the department was asked to construct footpaths, but till date no action has been taken on it.
Rammurti Silwal, a resident of Nagal village, said that the work of cutting about three km of road from Yamunotri Highway to his village was started in the year 2022. But even after four years, that work has not been completed. At the same time, drains were not constructed by the department. Also, a dumping zone was not made. Due to this, the footpaths of the village have also been damaged due to the debris that came out during road construction. At the same time, the villagers are facing problems in movement during the rainy season.
Villagers have told the departmental officials many times that they should continue building the road, but till then their footpaths should be built. But neither the road is being built nor the footpaths are being constructed. Villagers say that if this is the situation just a short distance from the highway, then it would be dishonest to expect the same in remote areas. They said that due to the damaged footpaths, school children face the most difficulty in commuting. They said that the problem will be made known to the District Magistrate soon after meeting him. Executive Engineer of PWD Rajneesh Saini said that a machine has been sent to open the road of Nagal village. Road work will be done after the rains.
