Devprayag: One of the ambitious rail projects, Rishikesh-Karnprayag Broad Gauge Rail Line has achieved a historic success. In Package-2 of the project, the breakthrough of the 6.6 km long final tunnel between Gular and Vyasi was completed on Friday. Earlier, the breakthrough of the first tunnel of 6.5 km between Shivpuri and Gular has been done.
Implemented by Larsen & Toubro Limited under the direction of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), this package includes two major tunnels. These tunnels pass through difficult mountain geography, seismic sensitivity and complex geological structures. The breakthrough of the final tunnel was completed after months of precise planning, geological analysis and technical expertise.
Advanced technology like New Austrian Tunneling Method and real-time monitoring system were used in the project, which ensured timely progress and safety of workers. On this occasion, senior officials of L&T, RVNL and Yuksel ICT appreciated the efforts and dedication of the entire team.
Many challenges during tunnel construction
RVNL Project Manager Ravikant said that this success is the result of planning, engineering skills and hard work of the workers. He said that many challenges were faced during the construction of the tunnel, including hard rocks, underground water leakage and adverse weather.
This breakthrough not only symbolizes technical success, but it is also a decisive step towards facilitating the Chardham Yatra and the development of Uttarakhand. The success of this phase of the project will increase the convenience of passenger transport in future and reduce travel time substantially.
