In view of this, Jaspal Chauhan, secretary of the Ganga River Rafting Management Committee, has completely stopped the operation of rafting from Tuesday until further orders.
Rafting operates in the river Ganga from September 1 to June 30. During the rainy season, the water level of the Ganga rises in July and August, the operation of rafting is stopped for two months. The tourism department had already stopped the operation of rafting from Kaudiala, Marine Drive, Shivpuri and the club house due to the rising water level of the Ganga. Rafting was being operated only from Brahmapuri on behalf of the Tourism Department. On Tuesday, tourism department officials have also closed that point.
Ganga flowing by touching the ghats and banks
Due to the heavy rains in the mountains, the water level of the Ganga is constantly rising in the plains. The river Ganga is flowing by touching the ghats and banks in places like Lakshmanjhula, Sangvarashram, Muni Ki Reti, Tapovan, Triveni Ghat etc. Water police and disaster management teams are maintaining surveillance. According to the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga was recorded at 338.00 metres at 12 noon on Tuesday. Which was flowing 1.50 meters below the warning line.
The water level of Ganga is constantly rising these days. In view of the safety of tourists, the operation of rafting in the Ganga has been suspended from Tuesday, June 24, till further orders.
