Mussoorie: Queen of mountains Mussoorie is in the grip of continuous torrential rain these days. The fierce form of nature has become a problem for the local people. Due to continuous heavy rain in Mussoorie, a major accident was averted in Landour market. A giant tree suddenly fell on the police post located here. In this incident, a car parked near the post was completely damaged, while constable Sunil Kumar and his family inside survived safely.
Constable Sunil Kumar told after the incident that he had given a written application to the forest department several days ago, looking at the condition of that tree adjacent to the police post. He had clearly said that the tree has become weak. This tree can fall anytime. He said that if the forest department had taken action in time, then this accident would not have happened today. He said that we had informed about the danger, but no one showed seriousness. Due to heavy rain, this tree finally fell today.
As soon as the information about the incident was received, the local administration showed promptness. Naib Tehsildar Kamal Rathore reached the spot with his team. He took stock of the situation. He said that due to continuous rain, incidents of landslides are also coming to the fore at many places in Mussoorie. The roots of the trees have become weak. Due to which the risk of such accidents has increased. He said that there has been no loss of life in this entire incident. After this incident, there is deep anger among the local people regarding the negligence of the forest department. People say that such weak and bent trees should be identified and cut beforehand. People demand that a comprehensive investigation of such potential dangers should be done across the city and the Forest Department, Municipality and Administration should take immediate steps together.
The road on Camel’s Back Road was damaged. Naib Tehsildar and Executive Officer Municipality Mussoorie inspected the area and movement has been stopped by putting up barricades, Naib Tehsildar said that the Municipality and the local administration are inspecting all the landslide affected areas. All concerned departments have been instructed to remain on alert wherever there is a possibility of landslides.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain for the next 48 hours. People have been appealed to be extremely cautious, especially not to stay near slopes, old trees or weak walls.
