Dehradun: Preparations are underway to install sensors in the state’s glacier lakes. In this regard, a proposal of Rs 30 crore has been sent to the National Disaster Management Authority. There is also a plan to study five lakes this year.
13 glacier lakes have been identified in the state, out of which five are more sensitive. The State Disaster Management Authority has decided to study such lakes. Under this, Vasundhara Tal in Chamoli district was studied last year.
This year, it has been decided to study the five sensitive lakes of Pithoragarh district and Kedartal beyond Gangotri, so that the condition of the respective lakes can be ascertained. Apart from this, the State Disaster Management Authority has planned to install sensors on the glacier lakes, so that if there is any change in the lakes, it can be detected and protective measures can be taken if needed. The Disaster Management Department has sent a proposal of Rs 30 crore to the National Disaster Management Authority to install sensors in the glacier lakes.
