Preparations are underway for a digital crop survey in over 4,000 villages in the state. Employees from the Revenue, Horticulture, Agriculture, and Sugarcane Development departments will conduct the survey. Training for these personnel is underway. The state has over 16,000 villages. Crop details in these villages are compiled manually.
This provides information on the crop and area. The Ministry of Agriculture has now directed the digital crop survey. Initially, the survey was planned in a few areas within the state as a pilot project, but now the decision has been made to conduct the digital crop survey in 4,400 villages across the state. The survey will be recorded digitally.
Records will be recorded through a mobile app.
A mobile app will be used for the digital crop survey. As soon as the surveyor arrives at the field, the GPS location will be displayed. The surveyor will then take a photo of the field and upload it to the app. Records of the field owner, the area of the field, and the crop sown on the field will be recorded. Furthermore, the number of trees in the field will also be recorded. Whether the field is irrigated or unirrigated will also be recorded.
What will be the benefits?
This survey will be conducted twice a year (during the Rabi and Kharif harvests). This will also record the crops grown within the total area of the field. If a farmer changes crops, that will also be recorded. This will provide information about farming patterns. If the nature of the field changes during the survey, for example, a house or road is built on the field, that will also be recorded. This will provide accurate data on agricultural land and any changes to it.
In the first phase, a digital crop survey is planned in 4,400 villages in the state. Personnel from various departments, including revenue, are being trained for this purpose. The survey work will begin as soon as the training is completed
