To further strengthen disaster management preparedness in the state, mock drills will be conducted in 13 districts on March 16, 17, and 18. These drills will be conducted in different tehsils to assess the actual disaster response situation at both the district headquarters and tehsil level, and to strengthen local response mechanisms.
A meeting regarding preparations for the mock drill was held under the chairmanship of Secretary, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman. District officials provided information about their potential selected locations. Secretary Suman directed that the mock drills be conducted as if they were real-life situations, so that the actual situation could be captured during the exercise and preparations could be properly evaluated. He stated that the State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) would monitor the entire exercise.
Secretary Suman stated that the USDMA itself is now capable of successfully conducting mock drills. He added that districts are now being empowered to conduct mock drills regularly based on their own resources.
Multiple departments will be involved
Secretary Suman stated that the USDMA is working with the goal of zero deaths. During the mock drills, scenarios will be conducted based on potential events such as earthquakes, forest fires, landslides, fires, waterlogging, floods, human-wildlife conflicts, boat capsizes, cloudbursts, reservoir explosions, industrial accidents, avalanches, stampedes, and river drownings. The district administration, police, fire department, health department, SDRF, forest department, and other relevant agencies will actively participate in these drills.
