Preparations have started for the assessment of tigers. A regional meeting of the directors of Rajaji and Corbett Tiger Reserves and other tiger reserves of the northern region has also been held at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun (WII). Now in the first phase, preparations are on to start the science survey in the coming October.
There was an increase in the number of tigers in the state. The Status of Tigers Co-predators and Prey in India – 2022 report was released, in which the number of tigers was mentioned as 560. Now preparations have started for the upcoming report. This work is to be done through WII, recently an institute meeting was also held regarding this. Saket Badola, Director of Corbett Tiger Reserve, who participated in it, says that information about camera traps etc. was sought from the Forest Department in the workshop. During this, information was also shared about training.
Badola says that tiger assessment work is done in three phases, in which science survey is done in the first phase. Which will start from October. Science survey is also called ecology monitoring, in which forest workers note down the information regarding the presence of wildlife.
