Mumbai: 9 districts of Maharashtra have been selected for the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) launched by the central government with the aim of increasing the income of farmers and making them self-reliant. The scheme will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Saturday, October 11.
Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Dattatreya Bharane said that the scheme will be implemented to improve agriculture, increase production, crop diversification and promote sustainable agriculture, which will directly benefit the farmers of the state.
These districts include:
The central government has selected 100 districts in the country struggling with low productivity, inadequate irrigation facilities and agricultural credit problems for this scheme. These include 9 districts of Maharashtra Palghar, Raigad, Dhule, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Nanded, Yavatmal, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.
What is the plan:
The scheme, which will be valid for the next 6 years, has a provision to spend Rs 24,000 crore annually. This will boost grain storage, processing, irrigation reform and local employment generation.
Relief to farmers:
“Agriculture Minister Dattatreya Bharane said, “”This scheme is an important step towards empowering farmers.” SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE, WATER CONSERVATION AND THE USE OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY WILL INCREASE THE CONFIDENCE OF FARMERS. The scheme is ‘force to agriculture and relief to farmers’. I appeal to more and more farmers to participate in this scheme.
Integration of 36 schemes:
More than 300 experimental and progressive farmers will participate in the launch ceremony on October 10. The scheme will be implemented by combining 36 schemes of 11 departments of central and state governments.
It will be implemented through Gram Panchayats, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Bazaar Samitis, Kisan Samriddhi Kendras and Cooperative Credit Institutions. It aims to increase crop productivity, ensure sustainable production, and strengthen post-harvest technology and credit systems.
