New Delhi: In an exclusive interview with PTI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government has implemented reforms with full commitment, and this is reflected not just in words but in action. Regarding trade deals, Prime Minister Modi said that political stability and predictability have restored investor confidence in India.
What did PM Modi say on economic policy and FTAs?
Regarding FTAs โโwith 38 countries, Prime Minister Modi said that strong manufacturing, services, and MSMEs help India negotiate trade agreements with strength. Our FTAs โโ(Free Trade Agreements) aim to expand market access for MSMEs in textiles, leather, chemicals, handicrafts, gems, and other sectors. He said that this year’s budget reflects India’s desire to become a developed nation. The PM said, “The budget is not a ‘now or never’ opportunity born out of compulsion, but a ‘we are ready’ moment born out of preparation and inspiration.”
Commitment to National Security
Referring to the increase in the defense budget, Prime Minister Modi said that it is the government’s responsibility to modernize the defense sector in accordance with current circumstances. He stated that the government will do whatever is necessary to support and strengthen the country’s defense forces.
Criticizing the “economic mismanagement” during the UPA government, Prime Minister Modi said that it left India in a position to negotiate with confidence. During the UPA government, negotiations would begin and then break down, but despite lengthy discussions, no concrete results were achieved.
Prime Minister Modi stated that reforms are the government’s commitment, which it has demonstrated in both letter and spirit. In an exclusive interview, Prime Minister Modi said that our free trade agreements (FTAs) are designed to increase market access for MSMEs in textiles, leather, chemicals, handicrafts, gems, and other sectors. The next leap for a developed India will depend on bold investments by the private sector in innovation, long-term capabilities, and global competitiveness. The Prime Minister stated that the private sector is crucial for the next phase of economic transformation and expects a “decisive response.” He added that as productivity increases, private sector owners should share profits equitably with workers.
He stated that India is a global digital leader, made possible by major changes in the way people transact through the UPI platform. While the reform express has achieved enormous progress, “I am never completely satisfied by nature.”
In this context, the Prime Minister said that data centers will provide numerous employment opportunities for our youth. India is laying the foundation for a thriving AI ecosystem by increasing computing power and data center infrastructure capacity.
Women’s welfare is a top priority in every decision.
Prime Minister Modi also discussed three reform priorities for the next decade, stating: “More structural reforms, deeper innovation, and simpler governance are our goals.” He said, “I believe that women will play a crucial role in building a developed India. I want to specifically emphasize that the welfare of women is the guiding principle in every decision made by our government.”
