At around 9:30 pm, in the posh Rajpur area of the city, the station house officer (SHO) of Rajpur police station, intoxicated, hit three vehicles one after the other. The video of the incident quickly went viral. The SSP took cognizance of the incident and suspended station house officer (SHO) Shanky Kumar that night. After a medical examination, a case was registered against him at the Rajpur police station.
Kalsi station house officer (SHO) Deepak Dhariwal has been appointed the new station house officer (SHO) of Rajpur. Shanky Kumar, who was trying to flee the scene after hitting the vehicles, was recognized by onlookers and began filming him. The video quickly went viral throughout the city. It clearly shows Shanky Kumar, dressed in plain clothes, sitting on a chair after the accident. When people began to surround him, he tried to get up and leave, but was unable to walk properly due to his intoxicated state.
He was on duty at the time of the incident.
Some policemen arrived on a bike with a cheetah sign and tried to take him away, but were stopped by those present at the scene. SP City Pramod Kumar stated that the accident was reported around 9:30 p.m. SO Shanky was in plain clothes and was on duty when he hit three vehicles.
After an investigation into his departure from the police station, departmental action was recommended. On the instructions of SSP Ajay Singh, he has been suspended with immediate effect. Following the investigation, a case has been filed at the Rajpur police station.
