The Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission, Dehradun, is conducting a written competitive examination for graduate-level positions in various departments. In view of the potential for anti-social elements to be active during the examination and the possibility of candidates being lured by promises of passing the examination, the police and the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) were already keeping a close watch on suspicious individuals. Two days ago, a joint police team received confidential information that a gang of individuals was forming to deceive candidates for the examination, promising them passage and demanding large sums of money. Based on this information, the joint team of Dehradun Police and the Special Task Force (STF) gathered information through confidential investigation and surveillance. During the investigation, it was discovered that a candidate named Pankaj Gaur was in contact with Hakam Singh. This individual was contacting candidates and demanding 12 to 15 lakh rupees in exchange for helping them pass the examination. On the basis of confidential investigation, the police team collected information about the accused and two accused namely 1- Hakam Singh son of Kedar Singh resident of village Niwari Post Battery, Police Station Mori, District Uttarkashi, age 42 years and 2- Pankaj Gaur son of Keshavanand Gaur resident of village Kandari Block Naugaon Revenue Police Station Kandari Barkot, Uttarkashi, age 32 years were taken into custody from Patel Nagar area. A case is being registered against them by Inspector Mukesh Tyagi, in-charge SOG, under the Uttarakhand Competitive Examination (Prevention and Measures to Prevent Unfair Means in Recruitment) Ordinance 2023 at Kotwali Patel Nagar. During interrogation of the accused, the police team got information that with the intention of cheating the candidates, the said accused had demanded the said money by luring them with the promise of passing the examination. If the candidates were automatically selected in the said examinations, the accused would have kept the said money with themselves and in case the candidates were not selected, the accused had planned to deceive them by promising to adjust the said money in the future examinations. *In the investigation of the entire case, there is no doubt about the breach of integrity and confidentiality of the said examination.*
