New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit and inaugurate Kartavya Bhawan at Kartavya Path in Delhi at around 12.15 pm on August 6. According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will then address a public event at Kartavya Path at around 6.30 pm.
According to a press release, the Kartavya Bhawan-3 being inaugurated is part of the comprehensive transformation of Central Vista. The project symbolizes the government’s comprehensive administrative reform agenda. According to the release, by locating ministries together and adopting state-of-the-art infrastructure, the shared central secretariat will improve inter-ministerial coordinate, accelerate policy implementation and promote a responsive administrative eco system.
Currently, several key ministries operate from old buildings such as Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan and Nirman Bhawan, built between the 1950s and 1970s, which are now structurally outdated. The new facilities will reduce repair and maintenance costs, increase productivity, improve employee well-being and improve overall service delivery.
Kartavya Bhawan-03 has been designed to promote efficiency, innovation and collaboration by bringing together various ministries and departments spread across Delhi. It will be a state-of-the-art office complex spread over an area of about 1.5 lakh square meters and will have two basements and seven floors (ground floor + 6 floors). It will house the offices of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of MSME, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Ministry / Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA).
According to the PMO release, the new building will be an example of modern infrastructure featuring IT-ready and secure workplaces, ID card-based access control, integrated electronic surveillance and a centralized command system. It will also promote sustainability, targeting a GRIHA-4 rating with double-glazed layers, rooftop solar, solar water heating, advanced heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and rainwater harvesting.
The building has been designed to consume 30 per cent less energy. It has special glass windows to keep the building cool and reduce external noise. Energy-saving LED lights, sensors to turn off lights when not needed, power-saving smart lifts and an advanced system to manage power usage will all help save energy.
Solar panels on the roof of Kartavya Bhawan-03 will generate over 5.34 lakh units of electricity every year. Solar water heaters meet more than a quarter of the daily hot water requirement. Charging stations for electric vehicles have also been provided, according to the release.
