New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, Wednesday, participated in the Pongal celebrations held at the official residence of Union Minister L. Murugan. He extended his best wishes to everyone present and also performed cow worship. Emphasizing the rich heritage of Tamil culture, he said that it is not limited to Tamil Nadu alone, but is a shared heritage of the entire country.
Addressing the Pongal festival program at L. Murugan’s residence in the national capital, the Prime Minister said that festivals like Pongal strengthen the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India). Earlier, he had also posted on social media, extending his wishes to all countrymen on Makar Sankranti, Bhogali Bihu, and Pongal. Addressing the gathering, he said that it is a great privilege for him to celebrate these festivals with everyone. The Prime Minister said that Pongal has now become a global festival and expressed his happiness at being a part of its celebrations. He said that this festival reflects the hard work of the farmers and expresses gratitude towards nature, the earth, and the sun. The Tamil community and those who appreciate Tamil culture around the world celebrate it with great enthusiasm, and I am one of them. It is a privilege for me to celebrate this special festival with all of you. Pongal is like a pleasant experience in our lives. Along with this, this festival shows us the way to maintain a balance between nature, family, and society.
Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the great enthusiasm across the country for festivals like Lohri, Makar Sankranti, and Magh Bihu. PM Modi said that at this time, there is great enthusiasm in different parts of the country for Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu, and many other festivals. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to my Tamil brothers and sisters living in India and around the world on Pongal and all these festivals.
It is worth noting that Pongal is one of the most important festivals for Tamil people worldwide. It is a festival of giving thanks to nature, the sun, farm animals, and farmers. It is traditionally celebrated as a family festival, symbolizing happiness, gratitude, and togetherness. To facilitate the celebrations, the Tamil Nadu government had earlier announced a Pongal gift package for all eligible beneficiaries, consisting of one kilogram of raw rice, one kilogram of sugar, and a whole sugarcane stalk.
Prime Minister Modi also wrote a letter to the nation on this occasion. In it, he wrote that these harvest festivals symbolize hope, positivity, and gratitude. Makar Sankranti is celebrated with different names and traditions in various parts of the country, but the spirit and enthusiasm behind it remain the same everywhere.
