On Friday, to mark the 100th anniversary of Indian hockey, Sports Minister Rekha Arya played with hockey players at the Manaskhand Sports Complex in Haldwani. An exhibition match was also organized there.
Sports Minister Rekha Arya arrived at the Golapur Stadium on Friday without any prior appointment and met with the hockey players, wishing them well. She informed the players that the Indian Hockey Federation was established on this day in 1925. Subsequently, the Indian hockey team participated in the 1928 Olympics for the first time, winning the gold medal and raising the flag of Indian hockey to the world.
Sports Minister Rekha Arya told the players that once upon a time, no team in the world was afraid to play against the Indian hockey team. She said that if young hockey players prepare with a determination to restore the past glory of Indian hockey, such success can be achieved again.
She said that the hockey culture in Uttarakhand is rapidly developing, and even in modern times, the state has produced players like Vandana Kataria.
He said that the players should prepare with the aim of ensuring that the state is well represented in the Indian hockey team for the next Olympics.
