Chennai: Political activity has intensified in Tamil Nadu ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Amidst this, A. Palaniswami is scheduled to hold crucial meetings with top BJP leaders in New Delhi on Thursday.
It is reported that Palaniswami has planned several high-level meetings in New Delhi, chief among them being a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During this meeting, the seat-sharing arrangement between the AIADMK and the BJP is expected to be finalized.
Palaniswami’s visit is considered highly significant in the process of giving final shape to the alliance between the two parties. Following the Election Commission’s announcement of the election schedule, all political parties in the state have plunged into election preparations. However, the current focus of all parties is on concluding alliance formation and seat-sharing agreements as expeditiously as possible.
While the ruling DMK has largely finalized its seat-sharing arrangements with its alliesโthe Congress and the CPIโthe AIADMK-BJP alliance has yet to announce its seat-sharing formula.
Both parties are striving to reach a balanced agreement, keeping their respective electoral strategies in mind. Meanwhile, Union Minister and the BJP’s election in-charge for Tamil Nadu, Piyush Goyal, is also expected to visit Chennai this week. The objective of his visit will include finalizing the campaign strategy.
Political observers suggest that these meetings in Delhi will, to a significant extent, determine not only the future of the AIADMK-BJP alliance but also its electoral performance.
