Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat said that for the first time an organ and milk bank will be set up in the state. Soon, Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTO) will be established in the state.
In the review meeting of the Medical Education Department, Minister Dr. Rawat directed the officials to take action to set up an organ bank in Government Medical College Doon. Apart from this, milk banks will be set up for newborns in all government medical colleges. He asked the college administration to organize blood donation camps, encourage body and organ donation, e-library and allocate certificates to medical students through digital locker.
In the meeting, departmental officials gave a presentation regarding the establishment of State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTO). Dr. Rawat said that all the formalities are being completed for the establishment of the state’s first organ bank. For its establishment, Dr. Atul, Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia, was appointed as the nodal officer. Those who will contact the officials of National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NATO) and Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (ROTO) for the establishment of the organ bank and will take action to complete all the formalities for the establishment of SOTTO.
The minister said, those who want to donate their body or organs can come to Doon Medical College or register by visiting the website of SOTTO. He asked every faculty of the medical college to voluntarily adopt one TB patient each. Director Medical Education Dr. Ashutosh Sayana, Additional Director Dr. RS Bisht, Principal of Doon Medical College Dr. Geeta Jain, Nodal Officer Dr. Atul Kumar were present in the meeting.
