Haldwani: Ordering pizza online proved costly for a young man. Cyber fraudsters stole Rs 1.93 lakh from the young man’s account. On the complaint of the victim, Haldwani Kotwali police has registered a case and started investigating the whole matter.
Bhagwan Singh Transport Nagar, a resident of Rampur Road Dewalchaud Bandobasti Mahakalika Vihar Colony of Kotwali area, works in a pharma company. On July 15, his colleague Dinesh ordered pizza online. Shortly after this, Dinesh cancelled the order, to get the money refunded, Dinesh searched for the customer care number on Google and found a mobile number there. When he called on this number, the caller introduced himself as an officer of the company and asked to share the screen through a video call and check the balance on Google Pay to get the refund.
After some time, the caller called and said that Dinesh was facing a problem in Google Pay and asked for someone else’s UPI ID. Falling into the trap of the cyber fraudster, Dinesh sent Bhagwan Singh’s mobile number and UPI ID and also shared the screen of the mobile. Shortly after this, Rs 1.93 lakh was deducted from Bhagwan Singh’s account in seven installments. Bhagwan Singh was shocked to see the money being deducted from his account. Bhagwan Singh also complained about this to the bank, but on not getting any response from the bank, he has registered a case of fraud against unknown cyber criminals in Haldwani Kotwali. Haldwani Kotwali in-charge Rajesh Yadav said that a case of fraud has been registered and further investigation is being done.
Bike thief arrested: Meanwhile, Banbhulpura police station has busted a bike thief gang. Here three accused have been arrested along with three bikes. According to Banbhulpura police station, Hasrat Ali Shah, resident of Gaujajali, had registered a case of theft of TVS Apache motorcycle on July 11. A team was formed under the leadership of Banbhulpura SHO Sushil Joshi, after which, on the basis of CCTV footage and investigation, Sunil Rajput (age 19 years) and Dev Vishwas alias Debu (age 18 years) were arrested from near the Yatri Vishram Griha on Gaula Bypass Road. Three stolen motorcycles have been recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused told that they were trying to sell the three bikes after stealing them from different places in Haldwani. Police say that the criminal history of both the arrested accused is being investigated.
