New Delhi: Ahead of the New Year, the Delhi Police has launched a major crackdown on criminals. “Operation Aaghat” has been launched to curb rising crime in Delhi. Under this operation, all police stations in South East Delhi are continuously identifying and arresting criminals to prevent organized crime.
Under Operation Aaghat 3.0, on Friday night, police teams from the South East district identified and interrogated suspects in various areas. More than 1000 suspects were questioned, and 285 accused were arrested, from whom cash and weapons were seized. Joint Commissioner of Police, South District, Sanjay Kumar Jain, said that Operation Aaghat was launched in South East Delhi to control the rising crime rate. Under Operation Aaghat 3.0, on Friday night, raids were conducted on the hideouts of criminals associated with organized gangs to apprehend them. Delhi Police teams also identified and interrogated criminals at crime hotspots with the help of local surveillance. As a result, 285 criminals were apprehended, and drugs, weapons, and cash were recovered from them. During the raids, police recovered lakhs of rupees in cash, knives, and over 40 illegal weapons, including pistols. Consignments of drugs and illicit liquor were also seized. The sole objective of Operation Aaghat 3.0 was to ensure the safety of ordinary citizens during the festive season. A large number of weapons were also recovered.
Under Operation Aaghat 3.0, Delhi Police detained and questioned 504 people, apprehended 116 notorious criminals, 10 property offenders, and 5 auto lifters. Several stolen vehicles have also been recovered. Meanwhile, 1306 people are being kept under surveillance due to their criminal backgrounds, and illegal weapons and contraband have been recovered from them. From the arrested accused, 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, 27 knives, 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor, and 6.01 kilograms of cannabis were recovered. 310 mobile phones were also recovered.
From the gamblers, Rs. 2,30,990 in cash, 310 mobile phones, 231 two-wheelers, and 1 four-wheeler were recovered and seized. A senior police officer stated that the sole objective of Operation Aaghat 3.0 was to curb organized crime in the South East district, as the New Year is approaching and they wanted to prevent any kind of criminal activity in the district during the New Year celebrations. Therefore, this campaign was launched against organized criminals to maintain social and public safety and to send a clear message to criminals to abandon their life of crime, otherwise, strict action will be taken against them through such operations. Interrogation of the arrested criminals is ongoing.
