Dehradun: PP Chaudhary, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constituted on One Nation-One Election, called it necessary for strengthening democracy. He said that the arguments of those opposing it are not clear.
The JPC, which is on a two-day visit to Uttarakhand, discussed the issue of simultaneous elections with representatives of political parties and public sector undertakings like NTPC, NHPC, THDC and REC at a hotel on Mussoorie Road on Wednesday and sought their opinion. During this, while talking to the media, JPC Chairman PP Chaudhary said that till 1967, simultaneous elections were held in the country for 15 years, and no chaos spread due to it. The states where assembly elections are still being held along with the Lok Sabha elections are happy. The people or parties who are opposing it are not able to explain it clearly.
Chaudhary said that the biggest benefit of simultaneous elections will be the strengthening of democracy. Voting percentage will increase. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thinks that if we want to strengthen democracy, then the participation of our voters should increase. He also said that on issues like repeated elections, free ration, free electricity, etc., the Supreme Court has already agreed against free and fair elections in the Indira Gandhi vs Rajnarayan case. Voters should be lured with education and health, not ration. He said that if the poor man becomes strong, then our country will become strong. This is the thinking of the Prime Minister, only then India will become developed.
The committee will discuss with them tomorrow
On Thursday, the committee will first discuss with the Chief Secretary of the state Anand Bardhan, heads of Home, Finance, Law, Education departments, Director General of Police. In the afternoon, it will discuss with the officials of the Bar Council, senior advocates, representatives of IIT Roorkee and take their suggestions. A session has also been scheduled for discussion with prominent personalities at the local level. On Wednesday morning, the committee members also did yoga for an hour.
Enthusiasm in the country on one nation, one election: Baluni
Garhwal MP and member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee Anil Baluni said that he is talking to all stakeholders, political parties, administration, local celebrities. Their opinion is being taken on one country-one election. Talks are also going on in Uttarakhand accordingly. He said that there is enthusiasm in the country. If there is one country-one election, then it will have its benefits. The central government works in a democratic manner. When the bill came to Parliament, the opposition demanded the formation of JPC. The government accepted. Now JPC is talking to people across the country. It will also go to other states. One country one election is important for the state of Uttarakhand. Due to being a remote area, more resources are required here. Wherever the committee is going, there is a positive atmosphere about it. People are curious to make it a law and implement it soon.
