New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to citizens to fulfill their constitutional duties, saying they are the foundation of a strong democracy. In a letter to citizens on Constitution Day, the Prime Minister also emphasized the responsibility of strengthening democracy by exercising the right to vote.
The Prime Minister suggested that schools and colleges should celebrate Constitution Day by honoring first-time voters. The PM said that this year’s Constitution Day is particularly significant as it coincides with the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, and the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. PM Modi recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that rights are derived from the fulfillment of duties and emphasized that fulfilling duties is the foundation of social and economic progress.
‘The Constitution will complete a century in 2049’
He said that 25 years have passed since the beginning of this century, and in just two decades, India will complete 100 years of independence from colonial rule. 2049 will mark a century since the adoption of the Constitution.
‘The country is moving towards the vision of a developed India’
He emphasized that the policies and decisions made will shape the lives of future generations. The Prime Minister urged the citizens of the country to keep their duties foremost in their minds as the country moves towards the vision of a developed India.
In another post on X, PM Modi said, “Our Constitution places great importance on respect, equality, and freedom. While it gives us rights, it also reminds us of our duties as citizens, which we must always strive to fulfill. These duties are the foundation of a strong democracy.”
Meanwhile, PM Modi also paid tribute to the framers of the Constitution. The Prime Minister said, โHis vision and vision continue to motivate us in our efforts to build a developed India.โ
