Roorkee (Laksar): The journey between Laksar-Roorkee is now going to be pleasant for the drivers. The exercise of construction of the proposed railway overbridge at Bahadurpur railway gate has now reached its final stage. After the construction of ROB, the distance from Laksar to Roorkee will be covered in minutes instead of hours.
Thousands of vehicles pass through the Laksar-Roorkee route daily. The vehicles of devotees coming to Haridwar on major Kumbh, Ardh Kumbh, Kanwar Yatra and major bathing festivals are also diverted from the highway and sent to Haridwar via this route. There are three railway crossings between Laksar-Roorkee. Among these, ROB has been constructed at Dosni gate.
Tender process will start
Construction of ROB is proposed at Dhandhera and Bahadurpur railway gates. There is often a long queue of vehicles at Dhandhera and Bahadurpur railway crossings. Due to the crossing being closed during the movement of trains, the pedestrians have to wait for a long time and also have to face traffic jams.
Among these, the exercise of construction of ROB at Bahadurpur railway crossing has reached its final stage. PWD has prepared the DPR for ROB and sent it to the government. Railways has already agreed on the construction of ROB. After this, now as soon as the approval is received from the government, the tender process for the construction of ROB will start.
The distance will be covered in 15 to 20 minutes
The distance between Laxsar and Roorkee is about 22 km. It takes 30 to 40 minutes for the drivers to cover this distance at normal speed. Due to the closure of railway crossing or jam, it takes one to one and a half hours to cover this distance of 22 km. After the construction of ROB, this distance will be covered in 15 to 20 minutes.
Cost of 44 crores, length will be 800 meters
The proposed railway overbridge designed by the Public Works Department is 800 meters long and 10.5 meters wide. An approach road of about 500 meters will be built on both sides of the ROB while the length of the part above the railway line will be 37 meters. Footpaths and stairs will be built on one side of the bridge for pedestrians. A proposal of about 44 crores has been prepared and sent to the government for the construction of ROB.
After getting the consent of the Railways for the construction of ROB in Bahadurpur, the estimate has been prepared and sent to the government for approval. After getting the approval, the tender process will be started. -Anil Kumar Saini, AE PWD, Laksar Division
