New Delhi: The railways are set to launch nine Amrit Bharat Express trains, which will provide comfortable travel at affordable prices to passengers across the rail network. These trains will soon be launched from West Bengal and Assam to various parts of India, joining the growing fleet of modern and affordable trains.
These trains will provide long-distance, affordable connectivity from these two states to densely populated states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. They will also cover distant states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, connecting many regions of the country. This rail service will ease the high demand for travel and provide passengers with a comfortable travel experience.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the railways have redefined mobility for millions of people who rely on trains as a daily necessity. By bringing the convenience and comfort associated with luxury travel to ordinary passengers, it has steadily expanded modern, passenger-friendly services, ensuring that reliability, safety, and enhanced comfort are no longer exclusive to premium travelers.
According to the Ministry of Railways, under this vision, the Amrit Bharat Express has emerged as a boon for daily commuters. Launched as a special offering of the Amrit Kaal, it provides uninterrupted, non-AC long-distance sleeper class travel at a fare of approximately Rs 500 per thousand kilometers, with proportionally lower prices for short and medium-distance journeys, connecting regions often isolated due to geography and opportunities. The fare structure is simple and transparent, with no dynamic pricing, making it accessible to the common man.
Since its launch in December 2023, 30 Amrit Bharat Express trains have been operational, and nine new services will be added in just one week. This new set of Amrit Bharat Express services will enhance rail links from the eastern and sub-Himalayan regions to major destinations in South, West, and Central India. Designed to handle a larger number of passengers
The ministry stated that these new Amrit Bharat Express services are being launched on routes passing through Assam, Bihar, and West Bengal, which account for a significant portion of India’s migrant workers and long-distance rail passengers. Designed specifically to cater to the needs of a large number of passengers, especially during festive seasons and peak travel times, these trains will provide reliable, affordable, and comfortable connectivity to passengers traveling for employment, education, and family needs across different parts of the country.
From New Jalpaiguri, the trains will directly connect North Bengal to the southern tip of the country and Central Tamil Nadu, creating seamless pathways between diverse linguistic, cultural, and economic zones. These routes are expected to become vital lifelines for migrant workers, students, traders, and families who regularly travel between Eastern India and the southern educational, industrial, and commercial centers.
Similarly, the new services from Alipurduar will strengthen connectivity between the Dooars region of Northeast India and major metropolitan and industrial centers in the southern and western parts of the country. For these geographically distant but strategically important regions, these trains will serve as stable economic and social connectors, improving access to jobs, education, healthcare, and markets.
Southbound Services
Services towards southern cities like Bengaluru and Chennai will support workforce mobility and student travel by connecting the eastern and northeastern regions to major manufacturing, IT, and educational hubs.
Direct connectivity to Mumbai and Panvel will strengthen east-west integration, facilitating business travel and access to key commercial and logistics hubs. Routes passing through Odisha and Andhra Pradesh will enhance seamless movement along the eastern corridor, benefiting industrial, coastal, and pilgrimage regions. Modern Amenities for Passengers
Passengers can enjoy a range of modern amenities, including foldable snack tables, mobile and bottle holders, radium floor strips, comfortable seats and berths, modern toilets with electro-pneumatic flushing, fire extinguishing systems, and facilities for passengers with disabilities.
Fast charging points and a pantry car further enhance the comfort of long-distance travel. By focusing on the needs of the average passenger, the Amrit Bharat Express demonstrates that modern design, reliability, and superior amenities can indeed be offered at affordable fares.
By redefining non-AC long-distance travel for everyday commuters, it presents a new model for inclusive, passenger-centric rail modernization. The Amrit Bharat train showcases a future-ready railway system where thoughtful design, indigenous technology, and efficient operations combine to create a comfortable, reliable, and inclusive rail travel experience that sets a new national standard.
