NHPC power house tunnel mouth closed due to landslide, 19 trapped employees rescued

A major accident took place in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The mouth of the underground tunnel of NHPC Power House located at Ailagad in Dharchula got closed due to the collapse of the hill. 19 personnel working inside the tunnel got trapped due to the accumulation of a large amount of debris and boulders at the mouth of the tunnel. Fortunately, all the employees and officers have been evacuated safely. District Magistrate Pithoragarh Vinod Goswami said that the joint team of administration, SDRF and BRO, after continuous efforts, has safely evacuated all the 19 people trapped in the tunnel. He said that all the officers and employees are completely safe. He said that the incidents of landslides in the area are being continuously monitored and necessary steps are being taken for safety. According to the information, the incident took place on Saturday evening in Ailagad. The hill cracked here. Due to this, a large amount of debris and boulders accumulated at the mouth of the NHPC tunnel. Due to this, 19 personnel working in the tunnel got trapped. As soon as the information of personnel being trapped was received, relief and rescue work was started on war footing. District Magistrate Vinod Goswami said that the debris has been removed from the mouth of the tunnel. District administration, BRO, NHPC, NDRF, CISF and other rescue teams were engaged in efforts to deal with the situation.
