Dehradun is known not only for its tranquil valleys and pleasant weather, but also for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has taken concrete and visionary steps towards restoring the city’s lost greenery and traditional form. This initiative is not only towards realizing the dream of ‘Sundar Doon – Swachh Doon’, but is also a pledge to give a clean and sustainable future to the coming generations.
* Campaign to return the green form of the city *
MDDA Vice President Shri Banshidhar Tiwari said that new public parks are being constructed by MDDA at many places in Dehradun city, in which shady, fruit and medicinal trees of local species are being planted prominently. This work is not only limited to increasing greenery, but is also an effort to reconnect nature with the lifestyle of the city. Beautiful, well-arranged plantations have been done on the roadside and dividers on major routes like Sahastradhara Road, Jollygrant Main Road, Shimla Bypass Road, Haridwar Bypass Road. This will not only make the city green, but will also prove to be helpful in improving air quality, temperature control and reducing noise pollution.
*Greenery will expand through partnership*
The authority has ensured that this campaign is not only done at the government level, but common citizens, social institutions, schools, colleges, and local bodies also actively participate. For this purpose, thousands of plants have been distributed to these institutions and citizens. MDDA is carrying an ambitious target of planting and distributing about 60 to 70 thousand plants this year. This is not just a figure, but a collective resolve – to establish Dehradun as a green city again.
*Dehradun is our cultural and environmental heritage*
Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami praised this campaign and said that Dehradun is not just a city, it is our cultural and environmental heritage. It is the duty of all of us to preserve it. This initiative of MDDA is not only commendable in the direction of environmental protection, but also paves the way for a clean and beautiful Uttarakhand for future generations. I appeal to all the citizens to be a part of this mass movement and make it successful.
*A ‘Green Doon’ again*
MDDA Vice President Shri Banshidhar Tiwari, while giving information on the progress of the campaign, said that we want to see Dehradun as a ‘Green Doon’ again. Tree plantation is not only an environmental responsibility but also a cultural duty. This campaign is being given the form of a movement through public participation, in which people of all ages and classes are joining. Our effort is to exceed the set target and turn it into a permanent tradition.
MDDA Vice President Shri Banshidhar Tiwari said that MDDA requests all citizens to be an active part of this campaign. Planting a tree not only strengthens the environment, but it also gives a strong message to the coming generations that we are aware and responsible towards nature and our roots. Let us all together make Dehradun green, clean and beautiful again. โ ‘Green Doon’, Beautiful Doon, Clean Doon
