The National Winter Championships begin in Auli today, Friday. A total of 17 teams from various states, the Army, the ITBP, and the CRPF have arrived in Auli to participate in the skiing competitions. Separate slopes have been prepared for the athletes to practice, with sufficient snow.
On Thursday, organizers inspected the two slopes where the skiing competitions will be held. Snow is being brought in from other locations to replenish areas where the snow has melted. Due to the lack of snow on the main slope, the competition is being held from Tower No. 8. Pradeep Mandrawal, skiing instructor with the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, stated that the skiing slopes in Auli have been finalized. Now, the athletes will showcase their skills.
Athletes ready to perform at their best
– The athletes who arrived in Auli praised the slopes and said they would put in all their efforts to achieve their best. Nitasha Mehr, who came from Himachal, said that she will participate in skiing mountaineering. She will work hard with full enthusiasm to win a medal. Playing on the slopes of Auli will be extremely thrilling. She is eager to participate in the competition.
Ranjita Bohra of the Odisha team said that Odisha is a plain area. I have to travel to other places to practice skiing. I also participated in skiing in Auli in 2021. Auli is a beautiful place surrounded by snow-capped peaks and forests. Attention should be paid to its further development. Ajay Thakur from Punjab said that he is fully prepared for the games. Wasim Bhat from Jammu and Kashmir said that he will try his best.
Organizers inspected the situation
– Ajay Bhatt of the Winter Games Association of Uttarakhand, Secretary Rakesh Ranjan Bhilingwal, Deputy Commandant Nanak Chand of ITBP Auli, Pradeep Mandrawal, Kamal Kishore Dimri, Pradeep Shah of GMVN, Regional Manager Virendra Gusain, Vikas Dimri, etc. conducted an on-site inspection of the slopes and other arrangements in Auli. Safety, technical standards, player facilities, etc. were thoroughly inspected.

– February 13th: Morning inauguration, cultural program, local skiing demonstration, ITBP ski and rescue demonstration
– February 14th: Alpine skiing – Giant Salalom (men and women), Snowboard – Giant Salalom
– February 15th: Alpine skiing Salalom (men and women), Snowboard Salalom, Ski Mountaineering Sprint
– February 16th: Prize distribution and closing ceremony
Events to be held during the Winter Carnival
– Along with the national winter competitions, a Winter Carnival will also be held in Auli. District Tourism Development Officer Arvind Gaur stated that the Winter Carnival will include a performance by the Pandavas Group, a performance by folk singer Kishan Mahipal, a snow shoe race (three km for women and five km for men), a snow marathon, children’s snow games, yoga in the snow, and night skiing.
Tourists and sports enthusiasts flock to Auli
Sports enthusiasts and tourists have begun gathering in large numbers to watch the National Winter Games and Winter Carnival in Auli. A large number of tourists arrived in Auli on Thursday as well. Although the snow has melted in the lower GMVN area, the upper area still has a good deal of snow, which tourists are seen enjoying. Tourists seem very excited about the games and winter carnival.
