Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the state government is committed to promoting the education, safety, and employment of girls, right from their birth. On Thursday, the Chief Minister transferred an amount of ₹1,45,93.00 (one billion forty-five crore ninety-three lakh rupees) through DBT to the accounts of 33,251 girls in the state for the financial year 2025-26 under the Nanda Gaura Yojana.
At a program organized at the Chief Minister’s residence, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state government is running the Nanda Gaura Yojana to encourage the birth of girls, eliminating discrimination between sons and daughters at the time of birth.
Under this, the state government is providing ₹11,000 on the birth of a girl child and ₹51,000 for higher education when the girl child passes the 12th standard. He said that under the scheme, a total amount of Rs. 11,68,49.00 (eleven billion sixty-eight crore fifty-nine lakh) has been released to 377,784 (three lakh seventy thousand seven hundred eighty-four) girls so far.
Work culture in government offices improved
The Chief Minister said that the state government is encouraging higher education for girls and, after education, is providing 30 percent reservation for girls in government services for employment. As a result, the position of women in Uttarakhand has strengthened in government services, significantly improving the work culture in government offices.
The Chief Minister said that the government is also striving to strengthen the economic status of ordinary women in the state through the Lakhpati Didi Yojana. He said that the Nanda Gaura Yojana has been successful in achieving the goals of curbing female foeticide, encouraging institutional delivery, and promoting girl child education, eliminating gender inequality in society. Speaking on the occasion, Departmental Minister Mrs. Rekha Arya said that 5,913 of the girls benefiting this year are newborns, while the remaining 27,338 received the funds upon passing the 12th grade. She extended her best wishes to all the beneficiaries.
