Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir): Koil village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district resembles any peaceful area in Kashmir, where people are involved in farming and education. However, the Delhi blasts have shaken not only the Indian capital but also the village of Koil, leaving two families in shock as their two doctor sons have been implicated in the blasts.
Media reports suggest that Dr. Umar Un Nabi, who was allegedly driving the i20 car in which the blasts occurred, may have been the suicide bomber. Dr. Umar Un Nabi’s modest two-story house in Koil has been surrounded by local media and neighbors, while his sister-in-law, Muzammil, is in shock. She is giving information about her brother-in-law to media persons, while her neighbors are consoling her and wiping her tears. Post Graduate from GMC Srinagar
Muzammil told ETV Bharat that 33-year-old Dr. Umar Un Nabi qualified MBBS in 2011 and then did a post-graduate from GMC Srinagar. After this, he worked at GMC Anantnag and then moved to Faridabad to teach as an assistant professor at Al Falah University in 2023.
He said that his father, a government teacher, is mentally ill. He abandoned his family, but Umar’s mother and elder brother took care of the household and helped Umar with his studies. Muzammil described Umar as a good and humble person who focused only on studies and loved cricket… He didn’t talk much and was introverted.
He said, “We spoke to him on Friday. We tried to call him on Saturday, but his phone was switched off.” Regarding his alleged involvement in the Delhi blasts, he said the family had no knowledge of this. “Educated at a local government school
Umar’s family consists of his mother and 35-year-old brother, Ashaq Ahmed, who is married to Muzammil. Ashaq works in a private job, and his eldest sister is also married. Muzammil said that Dr. Umar, who studied at a local government school, had come home in September this year.
He said that no previous case had been registered against him, nor was he linked to any anti-national activities. He said, “The police or any other agency had never come to our house for any investigation before. Nor was Umar involved in any previous case.” He further said that after the blasts, his mother and brother were detained by the local police at around 10 pm on Monday night.
Posters Pasted in Faridabad
300 meters from Dr. Umar’s house is the two-story home of Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, whom the Jammu and Kashmir Police have linked to the terrorist network that pasted posters in Faridabad and arrested him with bags of ammonium nitrate. His family and relatives are in shock. Dr. Muzammil’s father, Shakeel Ahmed Ganai, is a farmer, and his mother is a homemaker. His sister, also a doctor, studied MBBS in Bangladesh and was engaged to be married on November 9th.
Muzammil Shakeel received his MBBS from ASCOMS, Jammu, and worked as a housekeeper at SKIMS, Soura, Kashmir. His brother, Tafzaul Shakeel, who is preparing for NEET, told ETV Bharat that Dr. Muzammil was pursuing a DNB from Alfalah University in Faridabad. He went to Faridabad four years ago and was constantly talking to us.
Mother declares son innocent
His mother, Naseema Bano, a housewife, told ETV Bharat that her son is a doctor and declared him innocent. She said her son came home in June this year after his father underwent kidney stone surgery and was supposed to come for his sister’s wedding in the first week of November. “But on Thursday, the police arrested him from Faridabad,” she said. Dr. Muzammil studied at a local public school in Koil before passing NEET and pursuing MBBS. Bano said, “My son is innocent…he has been falsely implicated…I did farming and made him a doctor. He should be released.” Other women in the neighborhood wiped away her tears.
His father, Shakeel Ahmed Ganai, said his son had no connection to any militancy or terrorism. He said, “Last week Thursday, the local police raided our house and detained my elder son, Abbas Shakeel, and he is still in custody.”
