Manmohan Bhardwaj, representative of Industry Association of Uttarakhand, met Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi. During this, they discussed in detail the challenges of the mushroom industry in North India, especially the reclassification of button mushrooms and the GST rates on it.
Farmer Manmohan Bhardwaj informed the Agriculture Minister that in the notices issued recently by the Directorate of GST Intelligence, it has been suggested to remove canned button mushrooms from HSN code 0711 (temporarily preserved vegetables) and keep them in HSN 2003 (immediately consumed food items). This change will lead to a huge increase in the tax rate on the product, which will affect thousands of small processors, mushroom farmers, women workers and rural entrepreneurs. He urged that canned button mushrooms should be permanently kept under HSN 0711 and brought under the category of 0 percent GST, so that domestic producers can get protection and Indian industry can be protected from cheap imports
