Haridwar police and the CIU team finally solved the mystery of the woman found half-burnt on the side of the highway in Haridwar’s Shyampur area. Police uncovered the murder and arrested Salman, the deceased Seema Khatoon’s boyfriend, and another woman, Mehrunnisha. The accused, with the help of Mehrunnisha, who was involved in drug trafficking, strangled Seema to death due to a love dispute. To conceal her identity, they brought the body to Shyampur and burned it with diesel fuel.
On Friday, Superintendent of Police (Crime) Jitendra Mehra revealed the murder in a press conference at the SP City office in Mayapur. The SP stated that the accused, Salman, a resident of Udham Singh Nagar, strangled his girlfriend, Seema Khatoon, to death. Salman now wanted to marry someone else, which angered Seema and led to frequent fights with him.
On the evening of October 17th, a dispute between the two escalated inside a truck, leading Salman, with the help of a female companion, to strangle Seema. The two then brought the body in a truck to Haridwar and set it ablaze in an empty plot near Shyampur. The incident came to light on October 18th, when the half-burnt body of a woman was found on the side of the highway near village Ghaziwali. Police collected evidence from the scene and formed several teams to investigate.
The woman confessed to the murder.
Investigative teams, led by the Station House Officer, Shyampur, under the supervision of the City Superintendent of Police, scanned CCTV footage from approximately 300 to 400 vehicles. Using ANPR cameras, a white container truck was identified as suspicious. Clues led to Udham Singh Nagar, where a woman, Seema Khatoon, had been reported missing. Police detained the woman who was last seen with the deceased. During interrogation, the woman confessed to the murder and recounted the entire incident. She stated that Seema Khatoon had previously sent her son to jail in an NDPS case, a grudge against her. Salman and Seema had previously been in a relationship, but Salman wanted to marry someone else. This led to a fight between Seema and Salman, and they both murdered Seema.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) stated that during a checking operation in the Shyampur area on the night of October 23rd, the police team arrested the accused, Salman, son of Ghasita Khan, a resident of Majhra Laxmipur, Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar. The truck and diesel can used in the incident were also recovered from the accused. The accused woman, Mehrunnisha, wife of the late Nasir (53), a resident of Majhra Laxmipur, had already been taken into custody. Both are being produced in court.
A joint team from the CIU Haridwar and the Shyampur police station played a key role in uncovering the murder. The police team included Inspector Narendra Singh Bisht (CIU in-charge), Manoj Sharma (Shyampur police station in-charge), Sub-Inspector Gagan Maithani, Naveen Chauhan, Head Constable Manmohan Singh, Deshraj, and several other police officers.
