UPCL has installed more than two lakh smart meters in the state so far. The corporation management has set a target of installing 4000 meters daily. These meters are to be installed at the homes and establishments of 16 lakh consumers.
UPCL MD Anil Kumar said that smart meters are being installed to improve efficiency, reliability and transparency in the energy distribution system under the RDSS scheme. He said that it will give consumers accurate information about their electricity consumption.
Real time monitoring, remote connection, disconnection, billing system will also be improved. Smart meters are to be installed in all urban, semi-urban, rural, remote areas. The MD said that now a target has been set to install 4000 meters daily
