Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal released the “Gaura Devi Special Postage Stamp” in Raini, Chamoli, today to mark the birth centenary of the late Gaura Devi, the “daughter of the mountains” who awakened the cause of environmental protection not only in India but across the world through the Chipko movement.
During this, Minister Subodh Uniyal said that the late Gaura Devi’s entire life was dedicated to the conservation of the environment and nature. She considered the forests a part of her family and considered their protection her duty, and this sentiment gave birth to the world-famous “Chipko Movement.”
Minister Subodh Uniyal said, “Gaura Devi is an inspiration not only for Uttarakhand but for the entire world. She demonstrated that harmony with nature is humanity’s greatest religion. Today, we should all take inspiration from her and pledge to protect the environment, consider every tree a part of our lives, and give future generations a green future.”
A large number of local public representatives, officials, environmental activists, and students participated in the program. Everyone concluded the program with a pledge to follow Gaura Devi’s ideals and protect “every tree, every mountain, every river.”
