Dhanbad: Union Minister of State for Labor and Employment Shobha Karandlaje attended the 125th Foundation Day celebrations of the DGMS (Directorate General of Mines Safety) on Wednesday. She began the ceremony by lighting a lamp. During this, the Minister spoke about workers’ interests, praising their safety, social upliftment, and the difficult conditions they work in.

At that time, workers used to cut stones with their own hands. But now technology has arrived. However, many people have lost their lives during mining. She said that India is moving towards becoming a developed nation, and the contribution of workers is crucial in this. During this time, he bowed his head and paid respect to those who work in mining, risking their lives and families. The Minister said that workers think about the country’s development. There are many departments to work for, but they are contributing to the country’s development by working in mining. That is why PM Modi prioritizes the safety of workers.
Minister Speaks on Labor Code
Minister of State for Labor and Employment Shobha Karandlaje said that our country has been under the same British-era labor law. The British had created labor laws according to their own. The current Labor Code introduced by the Indian government should have been implemented earlier, but it has been implemented now. Some states are refusing to accept it, but we all need to take positive steps towards implementing the Labor Code.
Focus on Mining Technology and Safety Measures
During this time, the Minister focused on mining technology and safety measures. He said that along with mining, there is a need to focus on improved technology and worker safety. Currently, mining accidents in other countries have been halted. We need to focus on the technology and safety measures of those countries. All institutions and students should come forward to help us put an end to mining accidents.
The Central Government is Serious About Mining Safety
Speaking to the media, Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, stated that the DGMS has a huge responsibility after the release of the Labor Code. PM Modi emphasizes human safety. Mining safety is also included in the Labor Code. The Labor Code was created with the consideration of workers’ treatment, wages, and interests. She stated that the Labor Code was released on November 21st and will be enacted into law in the coming days.
Different types of mining occur in different locations across the country. Globally, AI and robotics technology are being used in the mining sector. India is also working in this direction. The safety of workers is our priority. On this occasion, the Minister honored the male and female rescue teams who represented India at the 13th International Mine Rescue Competition in Colombia in 2024. Sandhya Singh of the female rescue team stated that dealing with mine accidents is challenging, and this challenge varies from incident to incident. WCL Rescue Team Head Dinesh Kumar stated that receiving an award for excelling in an international competition is a matter of great pride for India.
Participants from 23 countries, including India, Canada, and Australia, participated in the International Mine Rescue Competition. This is Hindustan Zinc’s first female rescue team to achieve proficiency in mine rescue.
