The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is taking a strict stance against illegal plotting in its jurisdiction and is continuously carrying out demolition drives. MDDA teams are identifying and taking swift action against colonies being developed without approval, illegal plotting, unauthorized road cutting, and constructions carried out in violation of regulations in various areas. The authority’s clear message is that the development of the city and surrounding areas will only proceed in accordance with prescribed standards and the approved Master Plan. The MDDA had been receiving continuous complaints that some land mafia and private developers were circumventing regulations and carrying out illegal plotting on agricultural and other categories of land. These activities are not only harming the city’s geographical structure and environment but are also misleading ordinary citizens and selling them plots illegally. Taking these complaints seriously, the MDDA has formed special enforcement teams that are conducting regular inspections in different areas.
During the authority’s action, internal roads, boundary walls, and other structures built in illegally developed colonies were demolished at several locations. The MDDA has clarified that such actions will continue in the future and that no pressure or influence will be tolerated at any level. Citizens are also appealed to verify the legal status of any land or plot before purchasing it and to confirm the approval from the MDDA. Illegal plotting not only promotes urban disorder but also negatively impacts drainage, traffic, green spaces, and basic amenities. Considering this, the authority has adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against illegal plotting and construction. Along with enforcement actions, notices, sealing, and legal proceedings are also being initiated against the concerned individuals as per the rules. The MDDA is also ensuring that such activities are not repeated in the future by strengthening regular monitoring, drone surveys, and the local intelligence network. The authority’s objective is not merely demolition, but to increase awareness among the general public regarding regulations and to promote planned, safe, and environmentally balanced development.
