The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is taking a tough stand against illegal plotting and unauthorized constructions in the authority’s area, and demolition operations are continuing. Following record-breaking demolitions in 2025, this campaign is being carried forward with full seriousness and commitment in 2026 under the leadership of Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari. The MDDA’s clear objective is to ensure planned development in the authority’s area, effectively curb land mafias, and protect ordinary citizens from being defrauded by illegal plotting. Despite repeated warnings from the authority, some individuals were violating regulations and engaging in illegal plotting on a large scale, which is now being strictly addressed.
In this context, demolition action was taken against Harish Yadav, who was illegally plotting approximately 40 to 50 bighas of land in the Purukul area of Dehradun, near the Mussoorie Ropeway Project, within the authority’s jurisdiction. Roads, plot markings, and other illegal structures were being developed on the said land without approval, which was a clear violation of the Master Plan and the Authority’s rules. This action was taken in compliance with the orders of Joint Secretary Gaurav Chatwal. Assistant Engineer Shailendra Singh Rawat, Junior Engineer Umesh Verma, supervisors, the Authority’s enforcement staff, and a sufficient police force were present on the site during the demolition drive. The operation was carried out peacefully, systematically, and effectively. The MDDA has clarified that similar strict action will be taken in the future against illegal plotting, unauthorized colonies, and constructions carried out without map approval. The Authority has appealed to the public to ensure the legality of the area and the approval of the Authority before purchasing any type of land.
*Statement by MDDA Vice President Banshidhar Tiwari*
Illegal plotting will not be tolerated under any circumstances in the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority area. In 2025, we carried out record demolition operations, sending a clear message that strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules. This campaign continues with full force in 2026. Some individuals are attempting to mislead innocent citizens and sell illegal plots, which not only violates the law but also puts people’s lifelong earnings at risk. The MDDA’s objective is not merely to take action, but to ensure planned, safe, and environmentally sound development. We clearly warn all land mafias to immediately cease illegal activities, otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
*Statement by MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barniya*
The demolition action being carried out by the Authority is being carried out in strict accordance with the rules and legal procedures. Illegal plotting is not only against the Master Plan but also has serious implications for future infrastructure and the environment. The MDDA strives to ensure systematic and transparent development of the Dehradun and Mussoorie areas. Citizens are urged to obtain information from the MDDA before any land transaction. The Authority will continue to monitor and take action
