The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) held an important meeting today in the authority auditorium regarding the implementation of the Aadhat Bazaar Redevelopment Project. The meeting was chaired by Secretary Mohan Singh Barniya, and attended by departmental officers and employees.
Detailed Review of Construction Status*
At the meeting, Accountant Nazir Ahmed first briefed the Secretary on the current status of the Aadhat Bazaar construction work. He stated that most of the work has already been completed at the authority level, and the remaining work is being completed within the stipulated timeframe. *Secretary Mohan Singh Barniya* stated that the Aadhat Bazaar Redevelopment Project is a concrete step towards revitalizing the city’s old commercial infrastructure. *The process of allotment and payment to landowners will begin*
It was decided at the meeting that landowners whose files are not pending in any judicial proceedings or litigation, and whose ownership has been duly established, will be included in the land allotment and distribution process soon.
*Instructions to begin registration work from November 3rd*
Secretary Mohan Singh Barniya directed officials to begin registration work from November 3rd, 2025. Under this, the registration of eligible landowners will be completed in a timely manner, allowing for the next phases of the project to gain momentum.
*Affidavit for self-demolition within 15 days mandatory*
The meeting decided that before the registration, an affidavit will be obtained from each landowner, stating that they will demolish their affected structures within 15 days of the registration date. If this is not done within the stipulated period, the MDDA, Public Works Department (PWD), and the District Administration will jointly initiate demolition proceedings. No objections from the landowner will be accepted in this process.

Secretary Mohan Singh Barniya stated that the project’s objective is not merely to construct a physical structure, but to inject new energy and identity into the old commercial area. We are developing a modern market in the heart of Dehradun that is convenient, clean, and well-organized while maintaining the local identity. According to the MDDA, this project is being pursued with a spirit of transparency, public convenience, and timely implementation to revitalize this historic area of โโthe city with a new identity.

Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari described this initiative as an important chapter in Dehradun’s development. He said the Aadhat Bazaar redevelopment project will beautify the city and give a new direction to the business infrastructure. It is the MDDA’s priority to ensure that no citizen is inconvenienced by the development work and that all processes are completed in a fair manner. He also stated that the authority’s goal is to establish this project as the best urban redevelopment model in the state.

Joint Secretary Gaurav Chatwal, Executive Engineer Sunil Kumar, Assistant Engineer Rajendra Bahuguna of Team A, and Assistant Engineer Nishant Kukreti of Team B were present at the meeting along with their team members.
