In his two-and-a-half-minute address during his Mann Ki Baat address on Sunday, PM Modi highlighted Uttarakhand’s tourism. He stated that the country has every potential for winter tourism. “We have mountains, culture, and endless adventure opportunities,” he said. Winter tourism in Uttarakhand is attracting a large number of visitors these days. Destinations like Auli, Munsyari, Chopta, and Dayara are attracting a large number of tourists during the winter season. A few weeks ago, the state’s first high-altitude Himalayan ultra-marathon was held at Adi Kailash, at an altitude of over 14,500 feet in Pithoragarh district.
More than 750 athletes from 18 states across the country participated in the event. The 60-kilometer-long Adi Kailash Parikrama Run began at 5 a.m. in the bitter cold. Despite the cold, the enthusiasm of the people was palpable. The number of tourists visiting Adi Kailash, which had been less than 2,000 just three years ago, has now risen to over 30,000.
Winter sports are also scheduled to be held in Uttarakhand. Athletes and adventure tourism enthusiasts from across the country are excited about this event. Preparations for skiing, snowboarding, and other snow-based sports have begun. Uttarakhand has focused on connectivity and infrastructure development to promote winter tourism. A new policy has been formulated regarding homestays.
PM Modi said, “The mountains are also becoming increasingly popular as wedding destinations. Many weddings are now taking place on the banks of the Ganges River. During these winter months, the Himalayan valleys become a lifelong experience. If you are planning a trip this winter, be sure to consider the Himalayan valleys.”
