A bus carrying a wedding party from Baitadi to Bajhang in Nepal, near the Indian border, met with an accident. Thirteen wedding guests died in the accident, and 34 were injured. The condition of some of the injured is reported to be critical.
On Thursday night, the bus, carrying the bride from Bhavne village in Purchauni Municipality-7, Baitadi, to Sunkuda in Bajhang, went out of control at Badgaon Mod in Purchauni and plunged into a 150-meter-deep gorge. According to Police Inspector Baldev Badu, spokesperson for the Baitadi District Police Office, the passengers were rescued by the Nepal Armed Police Force, the police, and local residents during the night.
A 13-year-old boy also died in the accident.
The deceased include Keshav Raj Joshi (40), Ashok Raj Joshi (13), Basant Raj Joshi (35), Bishnu Dutt Joshi (41), Naresh Raj Joshi (42), Bishan Dutt Joshi (17), Deepak Joshi (28), Kishan Joshi (46), all residents of Bithad Chir Rural Municipality, Bajhang; Mohan Dev Bhatt (60) and Keshav Bhatt (27), residents of Kedarsyu Rural Municipality, Bajhang; Basant Raj Ratla (40), a resident of Jay Prithvi Municipality, Bajhang; Pushpa Awasthi (40), and Sushil Joshi, both residents of Purchauni Municipality, Baitadi.
Police Inspector Baldev Badu, spokesperson for the Baitadi District Police Office, stated that six wedding guests died at the accident site. Five died at Dadeldhura Hospital, and two died at Kotila Hospital. The condition of some of the injured is reported to be serious.
The bus was carrying a large number of wedding guests. The bus failed to climb the incline, leading to the accident. 25 injured wedding guests have been admitted to Dadeldhura Hospital, and five critically injured have been sent to Dhangadhi
