Mumbai: A big network supplying drugs across the country has been busted. Its roots are linked to Hyderabad in Telangana. In this connection, Maharashtra Police has arrested two people who were manufacturing the drug mephedrine in an industry located in Cherlapally.
5.96 kg of mephedrine, 35,500 liters of chemical and 950 kg of raw material were seized from the industry, which is said to be worth Rs 11.58 crore. The accused were arrested on Friday evening and the case came to light on Saturday.
Drug manufacturing unit exposed
It is worth noting that this drug manufacturing unit was exposed during the investigation of the arrest of a Bangladeshi woman on charges of supplying drugs in Mumbai. Mira Bhayander and Vasai Virar Commissionerate Police in Maharashtra seized 105 grams of mephedrine from a woman on August 8. The accused has been identified as Bangladeshi national Fatima Murad Sheikh alias Molla.
Based on the information provided by the accused, 10 more people were arrested and 178 grams of mephedrine was seized, worth Rs 1.58 crore. Rs 23.97 lakh, phones and cars were seized. During interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that the drugs were coming from Cherlapally in Hyderabad.
Raid on Vagdevi Laboratories
In this connection, a team led by Inspector Pramod of Mira Bhayander and Vasai Virar Crime Investigation Division-4 reached Hyderabad city two days ago. A drug manufacturing unit was exposed during a surprise raid at Vagdevi Laboratories located in Navodaya Colony, Phase-5, Cherlapally. Its owner Voleti Srinivas Vijay and his assistant Tanaji Pandarinath Patwari were arrested by the police. They were taken to Mumbai after obtaining a transit warrant from the court.
Manufacturing of mephedrine begins
Voleti Srinivas Vijay, a resident of Ramnagar area, worked in a leading pharmaceutical company and had rented a building from Jalandhar Reddy in Navodaya Colony of Cherlapally Industrial Area four years ago. He formed a company named Vagdevi Laboratories and made everyone believe that he manufactures medicine products. Then, he quietly started manufacturing mephedrine. Police suspect that these drugs are being supplied in Maharashtra and across the country.
