Following the ban on commercial gas cylinders, the rampant commercial use of domestic cylinders has now begun. The administration is conducting raids and seizing these cylinders. Despite this, people remain undeterred. In Dehradun on Saturday, while over 67,000 households were awaiting gas supplies, domestic gas cylinders were simultaneously found being used for commercial purposes in fast-food outlets and roadside eateries (dhabas).
An inspection conducted along the stretch from Patel Nagar to Kargi Chowk revealed that domestic gas cylinders were being utilized at fast-food shops and street carts. Some vendors had covered the cylinders with cloth, while others had concealed them inside sacks.
Commercial gas cylinders are more expensive than standard domestic cylinders. Consequently, some individuals opt to use domestic cylinders in their commercial establishments instead of the designated commercial ones. This practice is entirely illegal. Furthermore, in light of the situation arising from the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, the administration has imposed restrictions on the supply of commercial gas cylinders. Under these restrictions, the supply of commercial gas has been suspended for all entities, with the exception of educational and healthcare institutions. As a result, the commercial use of domestic cylinders has surged.
