Dehradun: According to the new excise policy of Uttarakhand, in the financial year 2025-26, the government has issued instructions to permanently close those liquor shops, where every time there is protest from the local people. On the evening of 14 May, Excise Commissioner Hari Chandra Semwal has issued a letter to all the District Excise Officers in this regard. In which he has sought information from the District Excise Officers of all the districts regarding how many such liquor shops are there in their districts? Where every financial year there is protest from the local people on opening of liquor shops.
In this regard, Hari Chandra Semwal, Commissioner of Excise, has given directions to all the District Magistrates to permanently close those new liquor shops in view of public protest and public sensitivities, where the protest is going on. He has said that in view of the local public outrage and public sentiments of the people, the decision to close these shops has been taken under the instructions of the Chief Minister.
At these places, if any amount has been deposited by the licensee in revenue, it will be returned. According to the latest information, till now there are about 4 to 5 such shops in many places including Almora, Dehradun, where public protest is seen every time on opening a liquor shop.
