Pithoragarh: There is a wave of mourning in the family of Kumaoni folk singer Ganesh Martolia’s sister and grandmother after they died after eating wild mushrooms in Pithoragarh’s Dhapa village. Even after reaching three hospitals from Munsiyari to Haldwani, both could not be saved.
During this time, both had to travel a distance of about 250 km. Here, at Ganesh Martolia’s residence in Kathgharia, people kept gathering to have the last glimpse of the deceased grandmother and sister. Family members say that the last rites of both will be performed at Chitrashila Ghat on Tuesday.
Ganesh, who works in SBI and has become popular with the Kumaoni song Panchachuli Desh, told in a soft voice that his sister and grandmother used to live with him. His father is in Johar. Grandmother used to have problems in summers, so she left in May. Grandmother was very old, so he had sent his sister along with her. Due to lack of information, both of them ate the wild mushrooms grown in the field. After that, at night, the sister called and said that her health was deteriorating, after which a relative in the village was called and they were sent to Munsiyari Hospital, 14-15 km away. During this time, they had started vomiting and diarrhea, but due to lack of adequate facilities in the hospital, they were discharged on the morning of July 13 and the sister was admitted to Pithoragarh Hospital in an ambulance and the grandmother in a private car. There was not much hope from here either, so preparations were made to bring both of them to Haldwani in an ambulance, but who knew that this would happen. I don’t know whom to blame. Even today, the health system has not been able to improve in remote rural areas. He told that on Tuesday, after the father Vijay Martolia comes from Johar, the last rites of both will be performed.
It is difficult to find out which poisonous mushroom it is
The Principal of the Medical College, Dr. Arun Joshi told that people grow a good species of mushroom at a suitable temperature for business, which is very expensive. The second mushroom is called wild which grows anywhere. Especially in the rainy season, it can be seen growing in most places. In this too, some are more poisonous and some less. It is very difficult to identify it. Eating it causes headache, vomiting and upset stomach. It damages the liver and kidneys. It was told that seven to eight cases of eating poisonous mushrooms come in Sushila Tiwari Hospital in a year. In these, some people are saved as the mushroom is not very poisonous but people should not eat wild mushrooms.
