Kolkata: Kolkata Police on Tuesday morning stopped an Indian Army truck in front of the city’s Writers’ Building, which was allegedly trying to cross the car of Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma. A Kolkata Police traffic sergeant posted at the signal immediately stopped the army truck. Kolkata Police has also released CCTV footage in this regard. Police said that there was no right turn from that signal.
On the other hand, the army truck was stopped and information was given to the Hare Street Police Station. When the Hare Street police reached there, two army personnel got down from the truck. About half an hour later, army officials from Fort William reached the spot and spoke to Kolkata Police officials.
A day earlier, the army had demolished the TMC stage
It is worth noting that on Monday evening, the Indian Army demolished the stage of the Trinamool Congress agitating on Mayo Road. It is alleged that the stage was not removed even after the permission expired. Therefore, army personnel from Fort William came and removed the stage and banners.
Later, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and top leaders of her party reached there. Mamata alleged that the Indian Army was acting at the behest of the BJP. There was a heated debate on this. However, the army claimed that the stage was demolished after its permission expired. The very next day, the Indian Army truck case made the atmosphere tense! Kolkata Police released CCTV footage of a traffic signal. It was also alleged that the army truck was coming from the left side of the road and a convoy of Kolkata Police was right behind it. Reportedly, the truck took a right turn as soon as it came in front of the signal. At the same time, the Commissioner’s speeding car somehow passed by. The traffic police on duty immediately stopped the army truck.
A senior Kolkata Police official said on the condition of anonymity, “The army vehicle was moving very dangerously. So we stopped it.” Kolkata Police has released a picture. In this, it can be seen that the signal from which the truck was turning to the right had a ‘No Right Turn’ sign. However, the picture shared shows the signal to be off.
At the same time, two army personnel in the truck claimed that the right turn signal in front of the Writers Building was open at that time. So they turned right. They also said that they did not know that the convoy of Kolkata Police was behind them. Even the allegations of overspeeding leveled by Kolkata Police have been rejected by those army personnel.
The army jawan driving the truck said, “We were coming straight. We were going to the passport office. The signal was open. We had to go ahead and park the car and get down because it was not possible to park on the left side. When I turned right, CP Sir’s car passed in front. I did not know that there was a convoy of CP Sir.”
However, after army officials from Fort William reached the spot, the truck was taken to Hare Street Police Station. Army officials have also reached there. They are talking to Kolkata Police officials.
