Rudraprayag: The ban on the operation of horses and mules in the Kedarnath Dham Yatra is now being gradually lifted. Due to Equine Influenza Virus Disease (EIVD), a temporary ban was imposed on the use of these animals in the Yatra, but now due to the vigilance and active monitoring of the Animal Husbandry Department, District Administration, the situation has started improving.
Pilgrims got relief from the operation of horses and mules in Kedarnath Yatra: Actually, the Animal Husbandry Department had sent some horses and mules on the Yatra route on a trial basis a few days ago. This trial was successful and no symptoms of infection were found in the animals involved in it. After this, the administration has started allowing the movement of horses and mules found negative in the investigation report on the Yatra route in a phased manner.
After relief from equine influenza, 3,410 horses and mules are being operated: Last Sunday, the Animal Husbandry Department sent 1,670 horses and mules for the Yatra with full caution. Whereas, on Monday, 3,410 horses and mules were operated. CVO Dr. Ashish Rawat said that the health of all the animals is being checked and only animals declared healthy and completely fit are being sent on the Yatra route.
Animal check-up centers have been set up at 3 places on the Kedarnath Yatra route: The department’s team is constantly monitoring the Yatra routes. So that, any unpleasant or emergency situation can be avoided.
